ALL DONE!

The Cat’s Cradle Collective created the Call for Scores “Das Tripas Coração”. We invited Portuguese composers all around the UK to create imaginative new works and arrangements based on Portuguese traditional music.

5 more pieces will be selected and recorded in studio by the Cat’s Cradle Collective, an ensemble created by António Sá-Dantas and Maren Bosma, that has performed music ranging from renaissance to contemporary works, in unique venues like the Royal Academy of Arts, the Portuguese Embassy, and the historical library of the Royal College of Music; creating innovative and unforgettable performances, engaging new audiences.

The recordings will form the base for short radio episodes (“rubricas musicais”), that will include a mini interview of the selected composers. These will be broadcast by the London based Radio Portuguesa UK in November/December 2020 and by the Portuguese national radio Antena 2 in 2021.

This project is supported by Instituto Camões.

A unique opportunity to work with the Cat’s Cradle Collective and to show your work on platforms that will reach thousands of people in the UK and Portugal.

    Submission and Selection

  10. Each composer may submit up to 3 individual pieces. Each piece will be judged independently.

  12. Pieces will be judged anonymously. The composer is asked to remove all indications of their identity from the score.

  13. A jury of three members of the Cat’s Cradle Collective — who will participate in the project —  will select 9 pieces.
The jury will consist of: António Sá-Dantas, Maren Bosma and Alex Temple-Heald.

  14. The selected works will be recorded in studio by the Cat’s Cradle Collective. Short pre-recorded episodes (rubricas musicais) of 5-8 minutes will be created. These will include the recorded pieces, as well as short interviews of the selected composers.

  15. These pre-recorded episodes will be broadcast by Rádio Portuguesa UK (recent Portuguese radio based in London) in 2020 and by Antena 2 (Portuguese national radio) in 2021.

  16. The selected composers are offered:

    1. One-off payment of £150 per selected piece.

    2. Studio recording, performed by the Cat’s Cradle Collective, of their selected pieces. Composers are free to use said recording, provided that the Cat’s Cradle Collective are credited in any promotional use.

  17. With the goal of promoting the selected works and their composers, the payment stipulated above, includes compensation for all rights concerning use of recording and broadcast of the pieces on radio, tv and any digital means in perpetuity and in all territories; as well as for up to 5 live performances until 2025.

  18. Cat’s Cradle Collective detains all rights regarding use of the musical episodes (rubricas musicais), that include the recording of the selected pieces and a short interview, done for this project.

  19. Payment will be transferred via bank transfer by the end of the first phase of the project (transmission by Rádio Portuguesa UK)—i.e. the 31st of December, 2020.

  20. Submissions should be sent by email to the Cat’s Cradle Collective on catscradle.collective@gmail.com—with the subject: “Application Das Tripas Coração”—before the end of 25th November 2020 (GMT).

  21. The submission should include:

    2. Scan / photo of a Portuguese passport or identity card.

    3. All scores in pdf format, without identification of the composer’s name.

  22. The results of the Call for Scores will be communicated via email and/or phone by November 27th 2020.

  23. The selected composers commit to:

    1. Making a set of instrumental parts available in PDF format before Friday November 29th at 6pm.

    2. Recording a short interview with António Sá-Dantas, artistic director of Cat’s Cradle Collective until the 1st December.
